Artikel hasil penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjelaskan gerakan social kaum hippies dalam menolak perang Vietnam di Amerika Serikat pada tahun 1965 – 1968, serta menjelaskan faktor pendukung dan faktor penghambat gerakan antiperang Vietnam di Amerika Serikat. Dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif dan pendekatan hermeneutik dengan jenis penelitian studi pustaka, hasil penelitian tersebut mengungkapkan bahwa gerakan sosial kaum hippies dalam menolak perang Vietnam di Amerika Serikat muncul selain akibat rasa solidaritas dan kemanusiaan atas intervensi politik yang dilakukan oleh Pemerintah Amerika Serikat terhadap perang Vietnam juga dipelopori oleh kondisi sosial dan politik Amerika Serikat pada waktu itu. Gerakan antiperang yang dipelopori oleh kaum hippies sebagai sebuah counterculture berhasil memberikan dampak yang signifikan terhadap sudut pandang masyarakat Amerika Serikat pada waktu itu terhadap perang Vietnam dan terhadap kebijakan politik luar negeri dan militer Amerika Serikat terhadap intervensi tersebut. Strategi yang digunakan kaum hippies diantaranya yaitu membangun komunikasi dengan kelompok – kelompok penekan yang memiliki tujuan yang sama, seperti SDS (Student for a Democratic Society), aksi damai seperti longmarch dan pagelaran kesenian yang disertai simbol sebagai sarana menyuarakan penolakan, serta mengikuti aktivitas kontestasi politik sebagai sarana formal dalam menyuarakan aspirasi penolakan. Faktor pendukung meliputi dukungan dari masyarakat Amerika Serikat memberi dampak yang sangat positif terhadap gerakan antiperang, karena dengan dukungan masyarakat melalui bantuan media saat itu mampu menyebarluaskan wacana antiperang dan menarik simpati masyarakat luas. Dukungan dari kelompok penekan yang memiliki tujuan yang sama juga turut memberi dampak positif terhadap gerakan antiperang. Faktor penghambat gerakan antiperang tersebut meliputi stigma masyarakat saat itu terhadap kultur hippies yang cenderung negatif dan juga kriminalisasi dan tindakan repressif yang dilakukan aparat.

This research aims to explain the social movements of the hippies in rejecting the Vietnam War in the United States in 1965-1968, and to explain all the supporting factors and the inhibiting factors of the Vietnam antiwar movement in the United States. This research using qualitative methods and a hermeneutic approach, while using literature study research as a type of research. The results of the research revealed that the social movements of hippies in rejecting the Vietnam war in the United States emerged in addition to a sense of solidarity and humanity over political intervention by the United States Government against the Vietnam war also spearheaded by the social and political conditions of the United States at that time. The antiwar movement pioneered by the hippies as a counterculture succeeded in having a significant impact on the viewpoint of the United States of America at that time on the Vietnam war and on the US foreign policy and military policy towards the intervention. The strategies used by the hippies include building communication with pressure groups that have the same goals, such as the SDS (Student for a Democratic Society), peaceful actions such as longmarchs and art performances that are accompanied by symbols as a means of voicing rejection, and following political contestation activities. as a formal means of voicing the aspirations of rejection. Supporting factors include support from the United States community which has a very positive impact on the antiwar movement, because with the support of the community through media assistance at that time able to disseminate antiwar discourse and attract the sympathy of the wider community. Support from pressure groups that have the same goals also has a positive impact on the antiwar movement. The inhibiting factors of the antiwar movement included the community's stigma at that time toward hippies culture which tended to be negative and also criminalization and repressive actions by the authorities.
