Penelitian ini mengoperasikan teori Social Movement Impact dan konsep Demokratisasi untuk meneliti sejauh mana pengaruh gerakan sosial Umbrella Movement terhadap dinamika demokratisasi Hong Kong khususnya terhadap 2 indikator demokratisasi Hong Kong yaitu pemilu dan partai politik, pasca pecahnya gerakan tersebut. Dengan berfokus pada konteks sosial dan politik Hong Kong, diambil rumusan masalah berupa “bagaimana pengaruh gerakan sosial Umbrella Movement terhadap pemilu dan partai politik Hong Kong tahun 2014-2018”. Permasalahan di atas dianalisis menggunakan metode analisis eksplanatif, teknik pengumpulan data studi pustaka, dengan data primer berupa dokumen pemerintah atau lembaga, laporan yang diterbitkan oleh institusi, serta hasil observasi, dan data sekunder meliputi media cetak, daring, buku, serta jurnal. Aspek yang menarik ialah, peran penting media dalam Umbrella Movement dan skill literasi informasi generasi muda Hong Kong. Temuan dari penelitian ini meliputi 3 hal, diantaranya Umbrella Movement mampu menumbuhkan kesadaran sosial-politik kolektif masyarakat sipil Hong Kong terkait demokrasi Hong Kong di bawah Beijing, melatarbelakangi berdirinya partai politik pro-demokrasi baru di Hong Kong, dan meningkatkan kontestasi pemilu Hong Kong.

This research uses the Social Movement Impact theory and the concept of Democratization to examine the influence of Umbrella Movement on the dynamics of Hong Kong’s democratization, especially on two indicators of Hong Kong’s democratization namely elections and political party, after the outbreak of the movement. By focusing on the social and political context of Hong Kong, the question become “how does the influence of Umbrella Movement toward Hong Kong’s 2014-2018 election and political parties”. Question above analyzed using explanatory analysis methods, study literature data collection techniques, with primary data such as government or institutional documents, reports published by institutions, also observastions, then secondary data including print, daring, books and journals. The interesting aspect is, the important role of the media in the Umbrella Movement and the information literacy skills of Hong Kong’s young generation. The findings of this study include 3 things, those are the Umbrella Movement able to raise the collective socio-political awareness of Hong Kong civil society regarding Hong Kong democracy under Beijing, yields a new pro-democracy political party in Hong Kong, and escalates Hong Kong election contestations.
