The Hybridity Depicted in Roy's The Folded Earth

ABSTRAK Penelitian yang berjudul “The Hybridity Depicted in Roy’s The Folded Earth” bertujuan untuk menemukan bentuk hibriditas yang digambarkan dalam novel The Folded Earth. Metode kualitatif digunakan dalam penelitian ini untuk menganalisis data. Data primer untuk penelitian ini diambil dari novel The Folded Earth karya Anuradha Roy, sedangkan data sekunder bersumber dari buku, artikel, esai, jurnal, dan informasi lain yang berhubungan. Terlebih lagi, teori hibriditas yang dikemukakan oleh Homi K Bhaba diterapkan untuk menemukan hibriditas dalam novel. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan ada tiga jenis hibriditas yang digambarkan dala bahasa, kehidupan social, dan arsitektur bangunan. Khusus dalam hibriditas bahasa diklasifikasikan lagi menjadi lima kategori yaitu salam, panggilan, penunjukkan ekspresi, penamaan, dan salah pengucapan. ABSTRACT This research entitled “The Hybridity Depicted in Roy’s The Folded Earth” aims find out the form of hybridity depicted in The Folded Earth. In conducting this research, a qualitative method is used to analyze the data. The primary data of this research is taken from The Folded Earth novel written by Anuradha Roy, while the secondary data are from books, articles, essays, journals, and other relevant information. In addition, the hybridity theory by Homi K Bhaba is applied to find out the hybridity appeared in the novel. The result of this research shows that there are three kinds of hybridity depicted in language, social life, and building architecture. Especially for language hybridity, it is classified into five categories those are greeting, calling, showing expression, naming, and miss-pronouncing.
