Penelitian ini berjudul "Peningkatan Keterampilan Membaca Efektif Melalui Metode Elaborasi Tipe PQ4R (Preview, Question, Read, Reflect, Recite, Review) Berbantuan Teknik Skimming Pada Siswa Kelas VII F SMPN 7 Purwokerto". Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan keterampilan membaca efektif melalui metode elaborasi tipe PQ4R berbantuan teknik Skimming pada siswa kelas VII F SMPN 7 Purwokerto tahun pelajaran 2018/2019. 
Penelitian ini termasuk Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK). Penelitian tindakan kelas ini dilaksanakan dalam dua siklus, setiap siklus terdiri dari empat tahap, yaitu perencanaan, tindakan, pengamatan (observasi), dan refleksi. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini ada dua yaitu tes dan nontes. Instrumen tes dilakukan untuk mengetahui peningkatan keterampilan membaca efektif siswa, sedangkan nontes digunakan untuk mengetahui aktivitas siswa pada saat kegiatan pembelajaran berlangsung.
Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini, diketahui siswa yang mencapai nilai tuntas belajar pada setiap siklus mengalami peningkatan. Pada siklus I siswa yang tuntas belajar 4 siswa atau 12,5% dari 32 siswa, sedangkan yang belum tuntas 28 siswa atau 87,5%  dengan nilai rata-rata membaca efektifnya 64,24. Siklus II semua siswa memperoleh nilai tuntas belajar dengan rata-rata nilai membaca efektifnya 89,12. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa keterampilan membaca efektif dapat ditingkatkan dengan metode elaborasi tipe PQ4R berbantuan teknik skimming.

This research is entitled "The Improvement of Effective Reading Skills Through the PQ4R Type Elaboration Method (Preview, Question, Read, Reflect, Recite, Review) Assisted by Skimming Techniques of Students in Class VII F of 7th Junior High School Purwokerto". This research aims to improve the effective reading skills through the PQ4R type elaboration method assisted by Skimming techniques of Students in Class VII F of 7th Junior High School Purwokerto on 2018/2019 period. 
This research included Classroom Action Research (CAR) method. This classroom action research is carried out in two cycles, each cycle consists of four stages, which are planning, action, observation, and reflection. The instruments used in this study are two, the test and non-test. The test instrument was carried out to determine the improvement of students' effective reading skills, while the non-test was used to determine student activities while learning activities are ongoing.
Based on the results of this research, it is known students who achieved complete learning scores in each cycle is increasing. In the first cycle, students who finished learning are 4 students or 12,5% of 32 students, while the unfinished are 28 students or 87,5% with the effective reading average value 64,24. In the second cycle, all students obtain complete learning scores with the effective reading average value 89,12. It can be concluded that the effective reading skills can be improved by the PQ4R type elaboration method assisted by skimming techniques.
