Akses internet pada zaman ini menjadi kebutuhan hampir setiap orang terutama pelajar yang membutuhkan materi dan sumber untuk dipelajari. Teknologi wireless yang membuat pengguna dapat mengakses internet dengan mudah dikarenakan dapat diakses dari mana saja dalam area cakupan access point yang menggunakan sinyal wifi sebagai perantaranya. Namun untuk dapat mengakses access point dengan optimal, maka dibutuhkan lokasi access point yang optimal di dalam gedung. Fakultas Teknik Unsoed memiliki beberapa access point di setiap gedung. Apabila access point yang terdapat pada di gedung di Fakultas Teknik Unsoed dapat terjadi interferensi dan menggunakan kanal yang sama dengan access point lainnya di gedung yang sama, hal ini dapat menyebabkan kualitas akses internet yang menurun. Ada faktor lain yang mempengaruhi kualitas akses internet, seperti jarak pengguna dari access point, daya sinyal, frekuensi, dsb. Oleh karenanya, dilakukan penelitian terhadap area cakupan access point dengan metode walk test untuk menentukan lokasi yang optimal di gedung Fakultas Teknik Unsoed.  Penelitian dilakukan dengan metode walk test, yaitu dengan cara mengambil beberapa data parameter di setiap titik di lantai gedung tersebut dengan bantuan perangkat lunak WiFiAnalyzer dan Octave yang nantinya data tersebut akan dianalisa dan dihitung untuk menentukan titik access point optimal di gedung tersebut.

Internet access in this age is the need of almost everyone, especially students who need material and resources to learn. Wireless technology that allows users to access the internet easily because it can be accessed from anywhere in the access point coverage area that uses wifi signals as intermediaries. But to be able to access the access point optimally, the optimal location of the access point is needed in the building. The Unsoed Engineering Faculty has several access points in each building. If an access point found in a building at the Unsoed Engineering Faculty can interfere and use the same channel with other access points in the same building, this can cause the quality of internet access to decrease. There are other factors that affect the quality of internet access, such as the user's distance from the access point, signal power, frequency, etc. Therefore, a research on the access point coverage area was conducted with the walk test method to determine the optimal location in the Unsoed Engineering Faculty building. The study was conducted using the walk test method, namely by taking several parameter data at each point on the floor of the building with the help of Octave and WiFiAnalyzer software, which will then be analyzed and calculated to determine the optimal point of access point in the building.
