Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia)

Artikel hasil penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dan memahami kecenderungan apa saja yang menjadikan white anglo-saxon protestant (WASP) mewacanakan othering minoritas melalui jargon “Make America Great Again” dalam Pemilihan Presiden Amerika Serikat Tahun 2016 serta mendeskripsikan bagaimana WASP melakukannya.  Dengan menggunakan metode kualitatif dan pendekatan analisis wacana dalam bingkai perspektif pascastrukturalisme dan paradigma dekonstruksionisme, hasil penelitian tersebut mengungkapkan bahwa dalam periode Pemilihan Presiden Amerika Serikat Tahun 2016 terjadi praktik politik kebudayaan berupa peminggiran/ peliyanan (othering) terhadap kelompok minoritas atau the Others (kaum kulit hitam, penganut non-Kristiani, kaum imigran, dan kaum lesbian-gay-bisexual-transgender (LGBT)) oleh kelompok mayoritas atau the Self, yaitu kaum WASP.  Untuk mewacanakan othering minoritas tersebut, WASP memiliki kecenderungan berupa keyakinan-keyakinan dan oportunitas: Manifest Destiny yang diklaim sebagai Anglo-Saxon Destiny, white supremacy, konservatisme dan oportunitas melalui pencalonan Trump sebagai figur representatif dari kaum WASP.  Dalam mewacanakan othering minoritas tersebut, WASP menggunakan pola retorika post-truth (pascakebenaran), yaitu dengan: mempertontonkan bullshit (ketidakpedulian terhadap kebenaran) sebagai kebenaran, mempertontonkan xenophobia sebagai patriotisme, dan mempertontonkan ethos-pathos sebagai hal yang logis.  Kesimpulan yang diperoleh adalah bahwa pola retorika post-truth tersebut telah memperkuat dominasi WASP sebagai kaum mayoritas di Amerika Serikat.

This research-based paper aims at knowing and describing the WASP preferences who’s spreading othering minority discourse through “Make America Great Again” jargon at US Election 2016 and also describing about how’s the WASP doing that.  By using a qualitative method and discourse analysis approach in the framework of the poststructuralist perspective and the deconstructionism paradigm, the result of the research reveals that in the US Election 2016, there’s cultural politics as subordination/ othering toward minority group or the Others (blacks, non-Christians, immigrants, and LGBTs) by majority group or the Self, that is WASP.  For spreading that othering minority discourse, WASP has some preferences: Manifest Destiny claimed as Anglo-Saxon Destiny, white supremacy, conservatism, and an opportunity through Trump nomination as representative figure of WASP.  In that spreading othering minority discourse, WASP using post-truth rhetoric pattern: bullshit parading as truth, xenophobia parading as patriotism, and ethos-pathos parading as logos.  The conclusion of this research is that post-truth rhetoric has strengthen the WASP domination as majority group in US.
