Penelitian ini berjudul “The Elements of Adaptation of “Rapunzel” Fairy Tale into Tangled Film” bertujuan untuk menemukan elemen-elemen adaptasi pada dongeng “Rapunzel” dan film Tangled. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif dalam menganalisis data utama. Data utama penelitian ini diambil dari naskah tertulis dan juga pendengaran visual dari film Tangled dan naskah dongeng “Rapunzel”. Dalam menganalisis data, peneliti menggunakan teori Film Adaptasi dari Linda Hutcheon berhubungan dengan elemen adaptasi pada kedua karya tersebut. Ada dua tahap dalam menjawab rumusan masalah. Tahap pertama adalah mengumpulkan data dari dongeng, film dan sumber lainnya yang berhubungan dengan elemen adaptasi. Tahap kedua adalah meneliti elemen adaptasi pada kedua karya; dongeng dan film, dengan cara membaginya menjadi lima elemen, seperti apa, siapa, mengapa, dimana dan kapan. Berdasarkan penelitian ini, peneliti menemukan elemen adaptasi dapat dilihat dari lima kategori, apa, siapa, mengapa, dimana dan kapan. Selanjutnya, elemen apa terdiri dari mode keterlibatan dan teknik adaptasi. Elemen siapa dan mengapa terdiri dari orang yang mengadaptasi karya asli dan alasan untuk mengadaptasi karya tersebut. Dan, elemen dimana dan kapan terdiri dari masalah feminis, tempat, waktu dan media pada karya adaptasi.

This research entitled “The Elements of Adaptation of “Rapunzel” Fairy Tale into Tangled Film” is aimed to figure out the elements of adaptation of “Rapunzel” fairy tale into Tangled film. This research uses qualitative method to analyse the main data of the research. The main data of this research are taken from the written transcript and also visual auditory of Tangled film and the script of “Rapunzel” fairy tale. In analysing the data, the researcher uses Film Adaptation theory by Linda Hutcheon relate with the elements of adaptation in both two works. There are 2 steps in answering the research question. The first step is collecting the data from fairy tale, film and the other sources which relate to the elements of adaptation. The second step is examining the elements of adaptation in both works; the fairy tale and the film, by dividing them into five elements, such as what, who, why, where and when. Based on this analysis, the researcher figures out the elements of adaptation can be seen from five categories, what, who, why, where and when. Further, what element consists of the modes of engagement and the techniques of adaptation. Who and why elements consist of the person who adapt the original work and the reason of adapt it. Then, where and when elements consist of feminist issue, place, time and media of adaptation work.
