Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia)

Penelitian yang berjudul “Contemporary Racist Behavior as Depicted in Get Out (2017) Movie” memiliki tujuan untuk mengetahui bagaimana keluarga kulit putih melakukan tindakan rasis modern terhadap orang kulit hitam dalam film tersebut. Terlebih lagi, penelitian ini juga menerangkan tentang latar belakang dari tindakan rasisme melalui fakta-fakta yang ada di masyarakat. Peneliti menggunakan metode kualitatif untuk menganalisis data. Data utamanya adalah film Get Out (2017) yang di sutradarai oleh Jordan Peele. Sebagai tambahan, teori rasisme akan menjadi teori umum bersamaan dengan tindakan rasis modern sebagai fokus utama dalam penelitian ini. Selain itu, tindakan root kit juga akan digunakan sebagai teori utama untuk menjelaskan cara orang kulit putih melakukan tindakan rasis modern dalam film tersebut. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa karakter-karakter dalam film ini melakukan ketiga bentuk tindakan rasis modern; Devensive (defensif), Offensive (ofensif) and Devensive-Offensive (defensif-offensif). Yang pertama adalah tindakan ofensif yang dilakukan melalui tiga cara; Denial (penyangkalan), Hurt feeling (sakit hati) dan Shame (malu). Yang kedua adalah tindakan ofensif yang dilakukan melalui dua cara; Attack (penyerangan) and White Guilt (Perasaan bersalah orang kulit putih). Yang terakhir adalah tindakan defensif-offensif yang dilakukan dengan satu cara yaitu Intellectualization (Intellectualisasi).

This research entitled “Contemporary Racist Behavior as Depicted in Get Out (2017) Movie” is aimed to find out how white family conducting contemporary racist behavior towards black people in the movie. Furthermore, it also explains the background of the racist behaviors through the facts found in society. The researcher used qualitative method in analyzing the data. The primary data is the movie, Get Out (2017), directed by Jordan Peele. In addition, the theory of racism will be the grand theory along with contemporary racist behavior as the main focus of this study. Moreover, root kit behavior will also be used as the main theory to explain the way the white liberals committing the contemporary racist behaviors in the movie. The result of this research shows that the characters in the movie practice all three types of contemporary racist behaviors; defensive, offensive and defensive-offensive. The first one is the defensive behaviors which are being practiced using four tools; Denial, Hurt Feeling, and Shame. The second one, the offensive behaviors which are being practiced using two tools; Attack, and White Guilt. The last one is defensive-offensive behaviors which are being practiced using one tool which is Intellectualization.
