Dalam proses transmisi cahaya, fiber optik memiliki rugi-rugi dan karakteristik transmisi. Karakteristik transmisi fiber optik mencakup redaman (attenuation) yang terjadi didalam fiber optik. Redaman merupakan pelemahan intensitas cahaya selama merambat pada serat atau bisa disebut juga roll off. Sementara layanan Catchplay UseeTV IndiHome menggunakan teknologi GPON yang menggunakan passive splitter sebagai percabangan pelanggan. Splitter pada PON dikatakan pasif sebab tidak memerlukan sumber energi eksternal dan optimasi tidak dilakukan terhadap daya yang digunakan untuk pelanggan yang jaraknya berbeda dari node splitter, sehingga cara kerjanya membagi daya optik sama rata. Oleh kerena itu diperlukan penelitian mengenai pengaruh variabel jarak terhadap performansi layanan Catchplay.
Metode penelitian yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah dengan menentukan parameter QoS yang digunakan (jitter, delay, throughput, frame rate dan packet lost). Kemudian merancang topologi pengukuran dari beberapa hardware untuk digunakan dalam penelitian yang terdiri switch dan beberapa kabel LAN yang akan disambungkan kedalam STB (Set Top Box) UseeTV. Selanjutnya melakukan pengukuran nilai parameter QoS dengan aplikasi Wireshark. Langkah terakhir adalah menentukan nilai indeks performansi dari parameter QoS yang ada dan menentukan pengaruh jarak terhadap nilai performansinya.
Dari penelitian ini didapat kesimpulan bahwa jarak berpengaruh terhadap nilai performansi. Semakin jauh jarak pelanggan dari sentral semakin kecil nilai performansi jaringan dan mutu pelayanannya, begitupun sebaliknya. Namun selain jarak ada pengaruh lain yaitu beban trafik seperti rugi-rugi dan banyaknya aliran data serta kapasitas sistem seperti demand bandwidth yang digunakan oleh setiap pelanggan.

In the process of light transmission, optical fiber has loss and transmission characteristics. Optical fiber transmission characteristics include attenuation that occurs within the optical fiber. Attenuation is a weakening of the intensity of light during creeping on the fiber or can also be called roll off. While Catchplay UseeTV IndiHome uses GPON technology that uses passive splitter as a branching subscriber. Splitter on the PON is said to be passive because it does not require an external energy source and optimization is not done on the power used for customers of different distance from the node splitter, so the way it works divides the optical power equally. Therefore, it is necessary research about the effect of distance variables on the performance of Catchplay services.
	The research method used in this research is to determine the QoS parameters used (jitter, delay, throughput, frame rate and packet lost). Then design the measurement topology from some hardware to be used in research which consist of switch and some LAN cable which will be connected to STB (Set Top Box) UseeTV. Next perform the measurement of QoS parameter values with Wireshark application. The last step is to determine the performance index value of the existing QoS parameters and determine the effect of distance to the value of its performance.
From this research, it can be concluded that the distance affects the performance value. The farther distance from customer to the central will cause smaller the value of network performance and quality of service, vice versa. But in addition to the distance there are other influences, such as traffic load loss and the amount of data flow and system capacity such as demand bandwidth used by each customer.
