	Penelitian yang bejudul “Reference Cohesion Analysis in BBC News Article Text of Speech: Mitt Romney Slams Republican Front-Runner Donald Trump” bertujuan untuk: (1) Mengetahui tipe-tipe Referen kohesi; (2) Menjelaskan bagaimana tipe-tipe referen tersebut mencerminkan sikap politik Mitt Romney. Metode deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik total sampel diterapkan dalam penelitian ini. Sampel dalam penelitian ini sama dengan populasi yaitu seluruh tipe-tipe referen yang ada pada teks pidato, adalah referen perseorangan, referen kata ganti petunjuk, dan referen perbandingan. 
	Untuk menganalisa data, pendekatan analisis wacana dan teori kohesi milik Halliday Hassan digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Teori kohesi oleh Halliday Hassan digunakan untuk mengetahui tipe-tipe referen dan menjelaskan penggunaan referen tersebut dalam teks pidato.
	Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa peneliti menemukan total 221 referen pada teks pidato Mitt Romney Slams Republican Front-Runner Donald Trump. Setiap data mewakili 3 tipe referen. Referen yang paling sering digunakan adalah referen perseorangan dengan total data 124, kedua adalah referen kata ganti petunjuk dengan total data 66 dan yang terakhir adalah referen perbandingan dengan total data 31. Pertama adalah referen perseorangan digunakan oleh Mitt Romney untuk menunjukan wewenang, mengemban tanggung jawab, menyampaikan pendapat, perasaan, dan keyakinan, menunjukan keikutsertaan, dan juga mengkritik lawan. Kedua adalah referen kata ganti petunjuk digunakan untuk menunjukan tempat dan waktu, menunjukan aktifitas atau situasi yang terjadi di masa sekarang dan masa lalu. Ketiga adalah referen perbandingan digunakan untuk menyamakan atau memperbandingkan orang dan hal-hal yang berhubungan dengan isu pada pidato. Selanjutnya, fungsi dari tipe-tipe referen tersebut menunjukan cara Mitt Romney menyampaikan pidatonya. Tipe-tipe referen tersebut mencerminkan sikap politik Mitt Romney yaitu agresif dan kritis.

	The research entitled “Reference Cohesion Analysis in BBC News Article Text of Speech: Mitt Romney Slams Republican Front-Runner Donald Trump” aims to: (1) find the types of reference cohesion; (2) explain how those reference types reflect Mitt Romney’s political attitude. A descriptive qualitative method with total sampling technique was applied in this research. The samples of this research same as the population was all reference types found in the text of speech, they are personal reference, demonstrative reference, and comparative reference.
	To analyze the data, Discourse analysis approach and cohesion theory from Halliday Hassan were used. Cohesion theory by Halliday Hassan was used to identify the types of reference and to explain the use of those references. 
	The result shows that there are 221 total data for references found in the text of speech Mitt Romney Slams Republican Front-Runner Donald Trump. Each datum represents 3 types of reference. The dominant data that are found in the text of speech are personal reference which total of data 124, second is demonstrative which total of data 66 and the last is comparative reference which total of data 31. First is personal reference as the dominant reference used by Mitt Romney to show authority, share responsibility, sharing opinions, feeling, and belief, showing involvement and criticize of others. Second is Demonstrative reference is used to show place and time and an activity or situation which is related to present and past-time. Third is comparative reference is used to compare a person and thing which are related to the issue in the speech. Furthermore, those reference types and its functions show the ways Mitt Romney used those references in deliver his speech. It reflects Mitt Romney’s political attitude that is aggressive and critical.
