Kecemasan dental merupakan fenomena psikologis yang sulit untuk diukur karena pasien bisa saja menyembunyikan perasaan mereka terhadap perawatan dental, jarum suntik, dan perawatan lainnya. Tingkat kecemasan dental dapat dipengaruhi oleh usia serta lingkungan seperti pada remaja yang tinggal di panti asuhan. Tahap usia remaja awal ditandai oleh emosi dan perasaan yang tidak stabil, berbeda dengan remaja akhir yang sudah muncul ketenangan dalam diri mereka. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui perbedaan tingkat kecemasan dental antara usia remaja awal (13-16 tahun) dan usia remaja akhir (17-18 tahun) penghuni panti asuhan di Kabupaten Banyumas. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode cross sectional. Teknik pengambilan sampel yang digunakan yaitu minimal sample size sehingga didapatkan jumlah responden sebanyak 120 orang yang kemudian dibagi  dalam 4 kelompok, yaitu kelompok usia remaja awal penghuni panti asuhan, kelompok usia remaja akhir penghuni panti asuhan, kelompok usia remaja awal yang tinggal dengan orang tua kandung, dan kelompok usia remaja akhir yang tinggga dengan orang tua kandung. Data tingkat kecemasan dental dievaluasi menggunakan kuesioner Modified Dental Anxiety Scale (MDAS). Data kemudian dianalisis secara statistik menggunakan One Way ANOVA dengan nilai p<0,05 (p=0,000). Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan pada tingkat kecemasan dental antar kelompok responden. Rerata tingkat kecemasan dental juga menunjukan bahwa remaja penghuni panti asuhan memiliki tingkat kecemasan dental yang lebih tinggi dibanding remaja yang tinggal dengan orang tua kandung pada kelompok umur yang sama. Simpulan penelitian ini terdapat perbedaan signifikan pada tingkat kecemasan dental antar kelompok responden. Remaja penghuni panti asuhan disarankan mendapatkan perhatian yang lebih agar bisa menurunkan tingkat kecemasan dental.

Dental anxiety is a psychological phenomenon that is difficult to be measured because patients may hide their feelings toward dental care, needles, and other treatments. The level of dental anxiety can be affected by age and environment, for example adolescents living in orphanages. In early adolescent phase, adolescents is characterized by emotions and unstable feelings, in contrast to late adolescent phase, they have emerged calm within themselves. This study aims to determine differences in the level of dental anxiety in early adolescents (13-16 years old) and late adolescents (17-18 years old) that live at the orphanage in Banyumas Regency compared to those who live with their biological parents. This research used cross sectional method. The sampling technique was the minimum sample size so that the number of samples obtained as many as 120 respondents which were divided into 4 groups, the early adolescent group of the orphanage, the late adolescent group of the orphanage, the early adolescent group that live with their biological parents, and late adolescent group who live with their biological parents. Data on dental anxiety levels were evaluated using the Modified Dental Anxiety Scale (MDAS) questionnaire. Data were then analyzed statistically using One Way ANOVA with p value <0,05 (p = 0,000). The results of this study indicated that there was a significant difference in the level of dental anxiety between groups of respondents. The average level of dental anxiety also indicated that adolescents who live at the orphanage have higher dental anxiety levels than adolescents who live with biological parents in the same age group. Conclusions of this study there are significant differences in the level of dental anxiety between groups of respondents. Adolescents who live at the orphanage should be given more attention in order to lower the level of dental anxiety.
