FORMULASI DAN UJI AKTIVITAS ANTIJERAWAT GEL MINYAK LAVENDER (Lavender Oil) TERHADAP Staphylococcus epidermidis

Latar Belakang: Minyak atsiri bunga lavender memiliki aktivitas antibakteri karena mengandung linalil asetat dan linalool. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk memformulasikan minyak atsiri bunga lavender menjadi sediaan gel dengan basis karbopol yang memenuhi persyaratan sifat fisik dan stabilitas fisik serta memiliki aktivitas antibakteri terhadap S. epidermidis. Metodologi: Formula sediaan gel dibuat dengan variasi konsentrasi karbopol 0,25%, 0,5%, 0,75% dan 1%. Hasil uji sifat fisik yang meliputi organoleptis, homogenitas, pH, dan uji stabilitas fisik freeze-thaw dianalisis secara deskriptif. Sedangkan viskositas, daya lekat dan daya sebar dianalisis menggunakan uji ANOVA satu arah dilanjutkan dengan uji LSD. Formula terpilih diuji aktivitas antibakteri dengan metode difusi sumuran. Hasil Penelitian: Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa peningkatan konsentrasi karbopol dapat meningkatkan viskositas dan daya lekat gel serta menurunkan daya sebar gel. Formula terpilih adalah gel minyak atsiri bunga lavender dengan konsentrasi karbopol 0,25% yang memiliki viskositas sebesar 28533-36507 cps, daya lekat 1,82-5,24 detik, daya sebar 5,6-6,95 cm, stabil pada uji freeze-thaw, serta diameter zona hambat terhadap S. epidermidis kategori kuat sebesar 18,83 mm. Kesimpulan: Formula sediaan gel yang memenuhi persyaratan sifat fisik dan stabilitas fisik yang paling baik adalah formula dengan konsentrasi karbopol 0,25% serta memiliki diameter zona hambat terhadap S. epidermidis sebesar 18,83 mm.

Background of the Study: Lavender oil has antibacterial activity because it contains linalyl acetate and linalool. This research aimed to formulate the lavender oil into gel preparation with a carbopol base which fulfills the requirements of physical characteristics and physical stability. It also has antibacterial activity against S. epidermidis. Methodology: Gel formulations were made with variations in carbopol concentrations of 0.25%, 0.5%, 0.75% and 1%. The test results of physical characteristics including organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, and freeze-thaw physical stability test were analyzed descriptively. While the viscosity, adhesion and spreading power were analyzed using one way ANOVA test followed by LSD test. Selected formulas were tested for activity by well diffusion method. Results: The results showed that the increased concentration of carbopol can increase the viscosity and gel adhesiveness and decrease the gel spreading power. The selected formula was a lavender oil gel with a concentration of 0.25% carbopol having a viscosity of 28533-36507 cps, gel adhesiveness power of 1.82 to 5.24 seconds, spreading power of 5.6-6.95 cm, stable on freeze-thaw test, as well as the inhibitory zone diameter against S. epidermidis strong category of 18.83 mm.. Conclusions: The gel formula that meets the requirements of physical characteristics and the best physical stability is a formula with a concentration of 0.25% carbopol and has an inhibitory zone diameter of S. epidermidis of 18.83 mm.
