Penelitian ini berjudul “An Analysis of Apology Strategies used by Steve Harvey in Announcing the Winner of Miss Universe 2015”. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengidentifikasi strategi permintaan maaf dan menjelaskan penggunaan strategi permintaan maaf yang digunakan oleh Steve Harvey dalam mengumumkan pemenang Miss Universe 2015.
Peneliti menggunakan metode kualitatif untuk menganalisis data. Data utama adalah video resmi Miss Universe 2015 dan video jumpa pers Steve Harvey di Youtube. Data ini dianalisis menggunakan teori tipe strategi permintaan maaf oleh Trosborg. Penulis menggunakan beberapa langkah dalam menganalisis data, yaitu mengidentifikasi data, menjelaskan data, dan membuat kesimpulan.
Dalam penelitian ini, penulis menemukan bahwa ada 4 tipe strategi permintaaan maaf yang digunakan oleh Steve Harvey dalam mengumumkan pemenang Miss Universe 2015. Steve Harvey menggunakan evasive strategy with the sub-strategy of querying precondition yang bertujuan agar pendengar menerima kenyataan bahwa semuanya sudah terjadi dan tidak ada seorangpun yang dapat merubahnya. Dia juga menggunakan indirect apologies with the sub-strategy of acknowledgment of responsibility. Strategi tersebut bertujuan untuk memberikan dukungan terhadap apa yang penonton inginkan,sehingga mereka dapat berhenti menyalahkan Steve Harvey. Selanjutnya Steve Harvey menggunakan indirect apology with explanation or account sub-strategy. Strategi ini bertujuan untuk mengurangi dampak dari sakit hati dengan memberikan penjelasan tentang situasi sebenarnya. Strategi yang digunakan oleh Steve Harvey selanjutnya adalah direct apologies. Dalam direct apologies ada  offer of apology dan request for forgiveness. Offer of apology sub-strategy bertujuan untuk memberikan permintaan maaf atas sakit hati yang telah diterima oleh para penonton. Selain itu, request for forgiveness sub-strategy bertujuan agar penonton tahu bahwa Steve Harvey benar-benar ingin meminta maaf. Strategi terakhir yang digunakan oleh Steve Harvey adalah remedial support. Semua sub-strategi dari  remedial support digunnakan oleh Steve Harvey. Yang pertama adalah expressing concern for hearer sub-strategy yang bertujuan untuk membuat penonton nyaman dengan cara memberikan perhatian kepadanya. Yang kedua adalah promise for forbearance sub-strategy. Sub-strategi ini bertujuan agar penonton percaya dan memaafkannya dengan cara memberikan janji-janji. Yang terakhir adalah offer of repair sub-strategy. Strategi ini bertujuan untuk memperbaiki kegaduhan yang disebabkan oleh kesalahan Steve Harvey.

This research is entitled “An Analysis of Apology Strategies used by Steve Harvey in Announcing the Winner of Miss Universe 2015”. The purpose of this research is to identify the apology strategies and to explain the use of apology strategy by Steve Harvey in announcing the winner of Miss Universe 2015.
The researcher used qualitative method in analyzing the data. The main data are official video of Miss Universe 2015 and the video of Steve Harvey’s Press Conference on YouTube. These data were analyzed using the types of apology strategies theory by Trosborg. In analyzing the data, the researcher conducted some steps. They were: identifying the data, explaining the data and drawing conclusion.
The result of this research shows that there are four types of apology strategies employed by Steve Harvey in announcing the winner of Miss Universe 2015. Steve Harvey used evasive strategy with the sub-strategy of querying precondition aims to make the audience accept the fact that everything happened and nobody can change it. He also used indirect apologies with the sub-strategy of acknowledgment of responsibility. It aimed to give the support the audience, so they could stop blaming on Steve Harvey. Next, Steve Harvey used indirect apology with explanation or account sub-strategy. This strategy was just aimed to reduce the impact of the offense by giving the explanation about the situation. The next strategy that was used by Steve Harvey was direct apologies. There were offer of apology and request for forgiveness. Offer of apology sub-strategy is aimed to offer an apology for the offense. In the other hand, the request for forgiveness sub-strategy is aimed to make the audience know that he really wanted the forgiveness. The last strategy that is used by Steve Harvey was remedial support. All of the sub-strategies of remedial support were used by Steve Harvey. The first was expressing concern for hearer sub-strategy which was aimed to comfort the audience by demonstrating his attention. Second was promise for forbearance sub-strategy. It aimed to make the audience believe and forgive him by giving promises. The last was offer of repair sub-strategy. It was aimed repair the damage caused by Steve Harvey infraction.
