Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendapatkan deskripsi kualitatif sapi PO jantan dan betina, perbedaan karakteristik kualitatif sapi PO jantan dan betina, dan perbedaan karakteristik kualitatif sapi PO antar kelompok ternak. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada tanggal 7 Maret 2015 sampai 17 April 2015 bertempat di 6 Kecamatan (Puring, Petanahan, Klirong, Buluspesantren, Ambal, Mirit) Kabupaten Kebumen, Jawa Tengah. Materi yang digunakan adalah sapi PO berjumlah 846 ekor terdiri dari 267 ekor jantan dan 579 ekor betina. Metode penelitian ini menggunakan analisis chi-square, dengan variabel yaitu pola warna dominan, bentuk kepala, keberadaan punuk, bentuk punuk, keberadaan tanduk, bentuk tanduk, bentuk gelambir, warna rambut ekor, warna mata, warna moncong. Hasil penelitian menunjukan terdapat perbedaan dan persamaan karakteristik kualitatif dari sapi PO jantan dan betina, perbedaan terlihat pada pola warna dominan, ada tiga macam pada sapi PO jantan yaitu putih (85,87%), putih abu-abu (6,01%), dan warna lain (8,01%) sedangkan sapi PO betina hanya putih (88,014%) dan putih abu-abu (11,89%). Perbedaan lain pada bentuk punuk sapi PO jantan ada tiga macam bentuk punuk yaitu kecil (75,51%), besar dan tegak (13,35%) serta besar dan rubuh (14,12%) lain halnya dengan sapi PO betina yang hanya memiliki bentuk punuk kecil (89,38%) serta besar dan tegak (10,61%). Ada tiga bentuk tanduk pada sapi PO jantan yaitu pendek (92,23%), panjang ke atas (0,38%) dan asimetris (0,38%) sedangkan sapi PO betina lebih bervariasi yaitu pendek (74,48%), panjang ke belakang (9,93%), panjang ke atas (11,98%), lengkung ke bawah (2,39%) dan asimetris (1,19%). Karakteristik lainnya seperti bentuk kepala, warna moncong, warna mata, warna rambut ekor dan bentuk gelambir memiliki karakterisik yang sama. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah terdapat perbedaan dan persamaan karakteristik kualitatif antara sapi PO jantan dan betina, sapi PO di wilayah Kabupaten Kebumen mempunyai karakteristik pola warna tubuh dominan putih, bentuk kepala biasa, bentuk tanduk pendek, bentuk punuk kecil, warna moncong hitam, warna rambut ekor hitam, warna mata hitam serta bentuk gelambir panjang berlipat, dan tidak terdapat perbedaan karakteristik kualitatif sapi PO jantan maupun betina antar kelompok ternak wilayah sumber pembibitan di Kabupaten Kebumen.

The purpose of this research to obtain a qualitative description male beef  and female beef PO cattle, PO cattle qualitative differences in the characteristics of male beef and female beef, and the differences between qualitative characteristics PO cattle herd. This research was conducted on March 7, 2015 until 17 April 2015 located in the 6 District (Puring, Petanahan, Klirong, Buluspesantren, Ambal, Mirit) Kebumen, Central Java. The material used is PO cattle totaling 846 tails consisted of 267 male beef cattle and 579 female beef cattle. This research method using chi-square analysis, the variables of the pattern of the dominant color, shape of the head, presence of hump, hump shape, presence of horns, horn shape, wattle form, tail hair color, eye color, the color of muzzle. The results showed there are differences and similarities qualitative characteristics of PO male beef cattle and female beef cattle, the differences seen in the dominant color pattern, there are three kinds of PO cattle male beef is white (85.87%), white shades gray (6.01%) and other colors (8.01%) while the PO females beef cattle only white (88.01%) and white shades gray (11.89%). Another difference in the shape of a PO males beef cattle hump there are three kinds of hump that is small (75.51%), big and upright (13.35%), big and collapsed (14.12%), another case with PO females beef cattle only have a small hump shape (89,384%) as well as big and upright (10.61%). There are three forms of PO male beef cattle’s horns is short (92.23%), long upward (0.38%), and asymmetric (0.38%) whereas females beef cattle more varied are short (74.48%), long back (9.93%), a long upward (11.98%), downward curved (2.39%) and asymmetric (1.19%). Other characteristics such as the shape of the head, muzzle color, eye color, tail hair color and shape of the wattle has the same characteristics. The conclusion from this research is that there are differences and similarities qualitative characteristics between males and females PO beef cattle, PO cattle in the district of Kebumen has a characteristic pattern of body color predominantly white, shape of head plain, form short horns, form a hump of small, black  muzzle color, black tail hair color, black eye color and shape of a long wattle doubled, and there are no qualitative differences in the characteristics of males and females PO beef cattle herd between the source region of breeding in Kebumen.
