Remaja perempuan lebih rentan terhadap HIV/AIDS. Data dari VCT RS. Margono Soekarjo, Purwokerto, hingga Januari 2013 pengidap HIV/AIDS, di antaranya 38 % dialami oleh perempuan (20-29 tahun). Di sisi lain, data SIGA Kabupaten Banyumas tahun 2012 tercatat 3862 pernikahan yang terjadi pada remaja perempuan di bawah usia 19 tahun. Adanya pergaulan bebas hingga kurang terbukanya interaksi dan pendidikan seks yang diberikan orang tua, menjadikan penyebaran virus HIV/AIDS menjadi mudah menyebar. Berangkat dari kenyataan tersebut, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui peran peer group dalam membentuk pengetahuan dan sikap remaja Siswa SMA di Purwokerto terhadap HIV / AIDS. 
Melalui serangkaian wawancara mendalam dan Focused Group Discussion terhadap siswi-siswi di SMA Negeri 1, 2, dan Baturraden, di Purwokerto, hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa peran peer group dalam membentuk pengetahuan dan sikap remaja perempuan mengenai HIV/AIDS belum mampu berkontribusi dalam memberikan pengetahuan pada remaja perempuan mengenai HIV/AIDS. Hal ini terlihat dengan tidak adanya obrolan mengenai HIV/AIDS pada pembicaraan sehari-hari. Selain itu, pengetahuan para siswi mengenai HIV/AIDS, baik dari wilayah pedesaan maupun perkotaan, kurang baik. Perlu diketahui pula, sebenarnya peer group yang terjalin pada para siswa perempuan ini kuat, terlihat dengan cara memilih teman yang cenderung memilih teman yang membawa dampak yang positif. Adanya kedekatan antara siswa satu dengan lainnya dengan topik pembicaraan seperti curhat masalah pribadi hingga cita-cita. Pengetahuan para siswa perempuan yang minim bisa terjadi karena kurang efektifnya sosialisasi yang ada di sekolah, maupun kurang terbukanya orang tua memberikan pendidikan seks pada anaknya.

Teenage girls are vulnerable to HIV/AIDS. Based on Margono Soekarjo’s VCT Purwokerto, since Januari 2013 there are 119 patients with AIDS and 322 of HIV sufferers. Up to 38% of them are women (20-29 years old). On the other hands, based on SIGA Kabupaten Banyumas in 2012 shows that in 2011, recorded that 3862 of marriages happened in teenage girls under 19 years old. In addition, the social life of the teenage leads to unwanted things, the lack of interaction and sex education by parents are also the supporting factors of early-age marriage and the spread of HIV/AIDS viruses. Based on that fact, the aim of this study is knowing the role of the peer group in shaping the knowledge and the attitude of High School students in Purwokerto about HIV/AIDS. The outcome shows that the role of peer group in shaping the knowledge and the attitude of teenage girls regarding about HIV/AIDS hasn’t contribute yet when it comes giving the knowledge for other friends or students about HIV/AIDS. This evident from the absence of topic about HIV/AIDS on their daily conversation. Apparently, their knowledge about HIV/AIDS either they come from village or city is bad. For additional, the peer group is actually tight, it can be seen from the way they choose their friends that can give positive influence. There’s connection between each student and they talk about their personal life and life goals. The lack of knowledge happen because of ineffective of school socialization, yet the lack of role from parents to give sex education to their children.
