THE IMPLEMENTATION OF SCRIPT PLAY TECHNIQUE IN TEACHING ENGLISH SPEAKING SKILL (A Descriptive Study of Script Play Technique on Grade VIII E Students of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Purwokerto, School Year 2015/2016)

Penelitian ini berjudul The Implementation of Script Play Technique in Teaching English Speaking Skill. (A Descriptive Study of Script Play Technique on Grade VIIIE Students of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Purwokerto, School Year 2015/2016). Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah (1) menjelaskan penerapan teknik Script play dalam pengajaran kemampuan berbicara Bahasa Inggris, (2) untuk mengetahui hasil observasi dari guru Bahasa Inggris tentang penerapan teknik Script play dalam pengajaran kemampuan berbicara Bahasa Inggris, (3) untuk mengetahui pendapat dari siswa tentang penerapan teknik Script play dalam pengajaran kemampuan berbicara Bahasa Inggris. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah deskriptif kualitatif. Instrumen yang digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data dalam penelitian ini adalah wawancara, kuesioner dan observasi. Data kemudian diolah dengan menggunakan penjelasan deskriptif. Setelah melaksanakan penelitian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa penerapan teknik script play terlaksana dengan sukses. Teknik Script play dapat membantu guru Bahasa Inggris mendorong siswa dalam kemampuan berbicara. Dari hasil pengamatan, penerapan teknik Script play dalam pengajaran kemampuan berbicara Bahasa Inggris membuat siswa lebih memahami bagaimana berbicara dengan mudah melalui menulis naskah berdasarkan ide mereka sendiri sebelum tampil depan kelas. Hal tersebut membantu siswa lebih percaya diri berbicara depan kelas. Selain itu, hasil dari wawancara dan kuesioner menunjukan bahwa guru Bahasa Inggris dan para siswa puas dengan penerapan teknik Script play. Hasil dari kuesioner menunjukan bahwa 71% siswa senang dalam mengikuti pelajaran dan hampir semua siswa aktif dalam kelas Bahasa Inggris menggunakan teknik Script play. Penelitian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan manfaat bagi para pembaca khususnya mahasiswa jurusan Bahasa Inggris sebagai referensi bagi mereka yang tertarik untuk melakukan penelitian dalam bidang linguistik terapan

The research entitled “The Implementation of Script Play Technique in Teaching English Speaking Skill. (A Descriptive Study of Script Play Technique on Grade VIIIE Students of SMP Muhammadiyah 1 Purwokerto School Year 2015/2016)”. The purposes of this research were (1) explaining the implementation of Script Play technique in teaching English speaking skill, (2) finding out the result of the English teacher about the Implementation of Script play technique in teaching English speaking skill, (3) finding out the opinion of students about the Implementation of Script Play technique in teaching English speaking skill. The research used qualitative method. The researcher took the data through interview, questionnaire and observation. The data was presented through descriptive explanation. After conducting the research, it was resumed that the implementation of Script Play technique in teaching English speaking skill was successfully done. Script play technique could help the English teacher to encourage the student in speaking skill. From the observation result, the implementation of Script Play technique in teaching English speaking skill increased the understanding of students how to speak easily by writing the Script first before performing in front of the class. It helped the students’ confident when they act out in front of their friends in a class. Moreover, the result of interview and questionnaire showed that the English teacher and the students were satisfied with the implementation of script play technique. The questionnaire result showed that 71% of the students enjoyed in following the lesson and most of the students were active in using Script play technique. The English teacher and the students stated Script play technique helped them in English speaking skill. This research was expected to give benefit to the reader especially to the students of English Department as a reference for them who are interested in conducting the research in the field of applied linguistics.
