Penelitian yang berjudul “Jim Crow Laws” Portrayed in John Howard Griffin’s Black like Me ini bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan bagaimana sistem segresi racial, Jim Crow Laws tercermin dalam novel. Kemudian, peneliti menggunakan sosiologi sastra sebagai pendekatan, rasisme sebagai teori dan Jim Crow Laws; yang digunakan untuk menganalisis isu dalam novel. Selanjutnya, analisis dijelaskan dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif.
Ada beberapa langkah dalam menganalisis novel ini. Langkah pertama adalah membaca novel, Black like Me, untuk memahami isi dari novel tersebut, dalam rangka untuk mengumpulkan data. Langkah kedua adalah mengidentifikasi data yang berisi tentang Jim Crow Laws. Langkah terakhir adalah memeriksa data yang dikumpulkan untuk melihat kredibilitas serta validitas data yang dikumpulkan.
Berdasarkan hasil analisis, temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada beberapa kota di Amerika Selatan yang mewakili keberadaan sistem segresi rasial, Jim Crow Laws di tahun 1950-an. Kota - kota tersebut adalah New Orleans, Mississippi, Alabama, Atlanta dan Texas. Semua kota tersebut dikendalikan oleh Jim Crow Laws di beberapa bagian transportasi umum seperti bus dan trem, fasilitas umum seperti restoran, ruang tunggu, bioskop, pantai, toilet dan bangku-bangku, perumahan, perkawinan ras dan pendidikan. Selanjutnya, Jim Crow Laws juga mengatur orang kulit hitam dengan norma-norma etika seperti sikap berbicara dan sopan santun dalam percakapan.

This research entitled “Jim Crow Laws” Portrayed in John Howard Griffin’s Black like Me is aimed to disclose how racial segregation system, Jim Crow Laws reflected in the novel. Thus, the researcher uses sociology of literature as an approach, racism as the theory and information related to Jim Crow Laws, to analyze the issue of the novel. Furthermore, the analysis is explained by using a descriptive qualitative method. 
There are several steps in analyzing the novel. The first step is reading Black like Me novel to understand the content of it and in order to collect the data. The second step is identifying the data that reflect Jim Crow Laws. The last step is checking the collected data to see the credibility and validity of the collected data.
Based on the analysis, the research findings show that there are several cities in South America that represented the existence of racial segregation system, Jim Crow Laws in 1950s. There are New Orleans, Mississippi, Alabama, Atlanta and Texas. All of those cities controlled by Jim Crow Laws in several parts of public transportation such as buses and streetcar, public facilities such as restaurants, waiting room, restroom, movie house, beaches, toilets and benches, housing, intermarriage of races and education. Furthermore, Jim Crow Laws also has ruled black people by etiquette norms such as speaking attitudes and conversation manners.
