Penelitian ini berangkat dari ketertarikan penulis akan tema yang diusung oleh film Milk yaitu homoseksual dan politik. Ketika notabene tokoh politik rentan akan isu sensitif seperti negative campaign dan black campaignnamun  dalam proses untuk berjuang mengambil simpati dan mengemban amanat masyarakat justru mengusung identitas yang sudah sarat akan mitos negatif di masyarakat yaitu homoseksual. Disisi lain berbagai media juga ikut membangun stigma negatif untuk kemudian menjadi mitos mengenai homoseksual. Maka pembedahaan akan homoseksualitas dalam media menjadi menarik apalagi film ini seakan seperti mendobrak mitos yang ada mengenai homoseksual.Berdasarkan pengamatan perihal tersebut maka perumusan masalah yang diangkat oleh peneliti adalah bagaimana homoseksualitas direpresentasikan dalam film Milk. Tujuannya adalah untuk semakin membuka pandangan dan wawasan masyarakat terkait dengan isu seksualitas melalui perepresentasian di media seperti Film. Penelitian ini menggunakan Semiotik Roland Barthes untuk mengungkap makna  yang terkandung dalam tanda-tanda terkait homoseksualitas dalm film Milk. Hasil penelitian ini adalah bahwa perepresentasian keseluruhan mengenai homoseksual menjadi positif dengan memperlihatkan berbagai sisi kehidupan mereka dan menaruh posisi mereka sebagai kelompok minoritas yang ingin berjuang agar dapat hidup dalam taraf yang sama seperti lainnya bebas dari diskriminasi sekitar.

ABSTRACT
This study start from the interest of authors about the theme carried by the film Milk, there are homosexuals and political. When in fact the political figure is vulnerable to sensitive issues such as the negative campaign and black campaign but in the process to take the sympathy and assumes trustee of the community is carried identity already full of negative myth in society that is homosexual. On the other hand various media also build a negative stigma in order to be a myth concerning homosexual. Then talks toward homosexuality in the media would be interesting especially this film seemed like a break down myths that exist about homosexuals. Based on observations of the subject, the formulation of the issues raised by the researchers is how homosexuality is represented in the film Milk. The aim is to more open society views and insights related to issues of sexuality through the representation in the media such as film. This study use Semiotic Roland Barthes to uncover the meaning contained in the signs related to homosexuality in film Milk. The results of this study are the represented about homosexual become positive with portraying various aspects of their life and put their position as a minority who want to fight in order to live in the same level of other such as free from discrimination.
