CORPORATE GOVERNANCE AND FIRM PROFITABILITY: A STUDY OF COMPANIES LISTED IN THE JAKARTA ISLAMIC INDEX DURING PERIOD OF DECEMBER 2010-MAY2015

Penelitian ini mempelajari pengaruh tata kelola perusahaan terhadap profitabilitas perusahaan. Populasi dalam penelitian ini adalah perusahaan yang terdaftar di Jakarta Islamic Index. Terdapat 15 perusahaan sebagai sampel yang ditentukan dengan menggunakan purposive sampling method. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode regresi berganda. Hasil penelitian ini mengindikasikan bahwa: (1) Kepemilikan Institusi tidak berpengaruh terhadap profitabilitas perusahaan; (2) Kepemilikan Institusi tidak berpengaruh terhadap profitabilitas perusahaan kecil; (3) Kepemilikan Institusi tidak berpengaruh terhadap profitabilitas perusahaan besar; (4) Komisaris independen berpengaruh positif terhadap profitabilitas perusahaan; (5) Komisaris Independen berpengaruh positif terhadap profitabilitas perusahaan kecil; (6) Komisaris independen tidak berpengaruh terhadap profitabilitas perusahaan besar.

The aim of this research was to examine the influence of Corporate Governance on Firm Profitability. The research population was companies listed in the Jakarta Islamic Index (JII). Chosen by using purposive sampling method, this research used 15 companies as the sample. This study used multiple regression as the method of analysis. The result of this research indicated that: (1) Institutional Ownership does not influence Firm Profitability; (2) Institutional Ownership does not influence Profitability of Small Firms; (3) Institutional Ownership does not influence Profitability of Large Firms; (4) Board Independence has significant and positive effect on Firm Profitability; (5) Board Independence has significant and positive effect on Profitability of Small Firms; (6) Board Independence has no significant and positive on Profitability of Large Firms.
