Penelitian ini berjudul An Analysis of English Onomatopoeic Words Used in The Adventures of Tintin comic: The Broken Ear. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui onomatopoeia apa saja yang terdapat dalam komik ini, makna leksikal dan makna kontekstual serta untuk mengetahui fungsi dari onomatopoeia dalam komik The Adventures of Tintin : The Broken Ear.
Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif. Sumber data pada penelitian ini adalah komik The Adventures of Tintin : The Broken Ear, dan data yang digunakan adalah semua onomatopoeia yang terdapat pada komik ini. Data yang diperoleh kemudian dianalisa menggunakan teori dari Tsoi, Halliday dan Chaer. Teknik sample digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data yang relevan.
Temuan dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa setiap strip dalam komik ini terdapat 27data onomatopoeia. Data tersebut adalah, suara hewan (2 kata), suara alam (3 kata), suara manusia (8 kata) dan suara lain-lain (14 kata). Sedangkan untuk tipe dari onomatopoeia, ada dua tipe, yaitu reduplikatif onomatopoeia (5 kata) dan non-reduplikatif onomatopoeia sebanyak (22 kata).
Pembahasan dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa tipe onomatopoeia yang paling dominan pada komik The Adventures of Tintin: The Broken Ear adalah non-reduplikatif onomatopoeia.Penelitian ini juga menemukan bahwa ada empat klasifikasi dari onomatopoeia; yaitu suara alam, suara yang berasal dari manusia, suara hewan dan suara lain-lain. Pada kesimpulan penelitian ini, ditemukan bahwa tidak semua kata onomatopoeia dalam komik The Adventures of Tintin: The Broken Ear comics memiliki makna leksikal yang sama dengan makna konteks. Seringkali kedua makna tersebut berbeda karena mengacu pada konteks cerita dan konteks gambar yang terdapat dalam komik ini.
Pada akhir kata, peneliti menganjurkan kepada peneliti selanjutnya untuk membuat sebuah penelitian dengan objek dan kajian yang berbeda dan dengan topik yang berbeda dalam membahas onomatopoeia. Hal tersebut diharapkan dapat lebih mengembangkan kembali tentang sudut pandang dan pembahasan tentang onomatopoeia.

The research is entitled “An Analysis of English Onomatopoeic Words Used in The Adventures of Tintin comic: The Broken Ear”. Aims of the research are to find out the onomatopoeic words that are found, the lexical meaning and contextual meaning and the functions of onomatopoeic words in The Adventures of Tintin comic: The Broken Ear.
This research was analyzed by descriptive qualitative approach. The source of the data is comic The Adventures of Tintin: The Broken Ear, and the data were all onomatopoeic words that exist in the story. Then, the data collected were analyzed through Tsoi, Halliday and Chaer theory. Purposive sampling technique is used to obtain relevant data only.
The results of this study revealed that the strips of this comic perform 27 onomatopoeic words. They are calls of animals (2 words), sound of nature (3 words), sound of human (8 words) and miscellaneous sound (14 words). Then about the type, there are two types; reduplicated onomatopoeia (5 words) and the non-reduplicated onomatopoeia (22 words).
The discussion of this study shows the most dominant type of onomatopoeia in The Adventures of Tintin: The Broken Ear comic is non-reduplicated onomatopoeia. This study also concludes that there are four classifications of onomatopoeia, they are; sound of nature, sound made by human, calls of animal and miscellaneous sound. Finally this study examines that not all onomatopoeic word in The Adventures of Tintin: The Broken Ear comics have similar meaning as the context. However, they are different from each other based on the context of the story. Finally, this study suggests that the next researcher conduct further research in examining the different topic in different object to be able to expand this study by giving different point of view, such as the word class or syntactical onomatopoeic words.
