Untuk mengetahui perilaku kepatuhan hukum masyarakat berkendara bermotor terhadap rambu-rambu lalu lintas di wilayah hukum Polres Cilacap, peneliti menggunakan metode yuridis sosiologis. Hal tersebut juga guna membuktikan hipotesis mengenai kepatuhan hukum masyarakat yakni semakin rendah perilaku kepatuhan hukum masyarakat terhadap rambu-rambu lalu lintas di wilayah hukum Polres Cilacap, maka akan semakin tinggi pula pelanggaran terhadap rambu-rambu lalu lintas di wilayah hukum Polres Cilacap.  
	Kesadaran hukum mencakup unsur-unsur pengetahuan tentang hukum, pengetahuan tentang isi hukum, sikap hukum dan pola perilaku hukum. Masing-masing unsur tersebut hendak dihubungkan dengan kepatuhan hukum, untuk memperoleh keterangan-keterangan sampai sejauh manakah unsur-unsur tersebut berpengaruh terhadap derajat kepatuhan hukum. Dengan dasar asumsi pokok bahwa derajat kepatuhan hukum yang tinggi disebabkan oleh proses internalisasi di mana hukum adalah sesuai dengan nilai-nilai yang dianut warga-warga masyarakat. 
	Derajat kepatuhan hukum sangat ditentukan oleh taraf kesadaran hukum masyarakat. Pola perilaku masyarakat pengendara bermotor terhadap peraturan di wilayah hukum Polres Cilacap yang rendah mempengaruhi kepatuhan hukum, sehingga kepatuhan hukum masyarakat di wilayah hukum Polres Cilacap juga rendah. Apabila kepatuhan hukum masyarakat pengendara bermotor terhadap hukum rendah, maka akan semakin tinggi tingkat pelanggaran rambu lalu lintas di wilayah hukum Polres Cilacap.

To know the laws of society behavior compliance motor driving against traffic signals in the jurisdiction of cilacap police, researchers used a method of sociological juridical. This is also in order to prove a hypothesis about compliance law people is the lower behavior observance of laws from the community for traffic signals in the jurisdiction of cilacap police, the more one is also a violation of high traffic signals in the jurisdiction of cilacap police.
	Legal awareness in includes elements knowledge of the laws, knowledge of the contents of law, the attitude of law and legal pattern of behavior. Each elements such will connected by observance of laws, to obtain keterangan-keterangan elements until to what extent on the particular observance of laws degree. On the basis of basic assumption that degree of high observance of laws internalization caused by the process at which is legal is in accordance with the values of that which is embraced the men the community.
	Degrees of observance of laws is very much determined by the level of awareness of community law. Pattern of behavior the community motor rider to rules in the jurisdiction of the precinct cilacap low compliance law affects, so that the compliance of the law community in the police precinct law cilacap also low. If the compliance of the laws of society motor rider against law low, it will be the higher the level of offense traffic signs in the jurisdiction of the precinct cilacap.
