KERAGAMAN KUMBANG COLEOPTERA PADA HUTAN DAMAR DAN PINUS DI DESA SERANG PURBALINGGA
Abstrak (Bhs. Indonesia)

SUMMARY The eastern slope of Mount Slamet is one of the Indonesian rain forest area that is influenced by the wet rainforest of the western part and the monsoon forest of the eastern part of Java. Some natural forests in this area have been converted into industrial forest especially pine and dammar since many years ago (1917). Consequently, the chracteristics of the canopies, forest fragmentation, and the microclimate of the forest floor have been altered. As a result, the community structure, distribution and the composition of organismal groups may have changed due to the changes in microclimate of the habitat of soil insects including beetles (Coleoptera). The aim of this research is to investigate the diversity of beetles (Coleoptera) on the forest floor of the pine and dammar forests of the eastern slope of Mount Slamet, Serang village, Karangreja District, Purbalingga Regency. This research was conducted during the months of February until May 2014, using a survey method with a purposive random sampling technique along transect lines. Each line was consisted of five quadrants where pitfall traps were randomly placed. The variable studied was the species diversity and the parameters were the numbers of families and species of Coleoptera. The additional parameters were pH, humidity and the soil texture. The samples were indentified in the Laboratory of Entomology, Faculty of Biology, Jenderal Soedirman University Purwokerto. The data were analysed by using Shannon-Wienner Index. The results showed that there were found from both pine and dammar forests the total of 112 individuals of Coleopteran families consisted of 4 Nitidulidae that as many as 13 individuals, Laemophloeidae as much as 3 individuals, hydrophilidae much as 7 imdividuals and Scarabidae as many as 89 individuals. From the dammar forest, 96 individuals were found consisted of 4 species. These number were greater than that of the pine forests where there were obtained 16 individuals consisting of 3 species. Diversity index Shannon-Wienner of dammar forest was 3.295 (high) and of pine forest was 0.463 (low). This difference of diversity index of Coleoptera may be due to the difference in humidity and light intensity associated with the decomposition rate of the humus. .
