Tumbuhan bawah berfungsi sebagai penutup tanah yang menjaga kelembaban tanah sehingga dapat mempercepat proses dekomposisi dan menyediakan unsur hara untuk tanaman pokok. Ketinggian tempat sangat mempengaruhi kondisi iklim seperti : suhu, kelembaban udara dan curah hujan, ketiga komponen tersebut berpengaruh terhadap vegetasi yang ada. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui struktur dan komposisi dari vegetasi tumbuhan bawah pada tegakan damar dengan ketinggian yang berbeda dan mengetahui perbedaan jenis tumbuhan bawah dengan ketinggian yang berbeda. Lokasi pengambilan sampel dibagi menjadi dua tempat berdasarkan ketinggian di Kebun Raya Baturraden Kabupaten Banyumas dan Serang Kabupaten Purbalingga. Struktur tumbuhan bawah di Kebun Raya Baturraden tersusun atas tumbuhan herba,  rumput-rumputan, perdu, semak, paku-pakuan, dan di RPH Serang tersusun atas tumbuhan paku, rumput, herba, perdu dan semak. Komposisi tumbuhan yang ditemukan di Kebun Raya Baturraden terdiri dari 24 jenis dari 12 familia dan 17 jenis dari 14 familia di RPH Serang. Perhitungan Indeks Kesamaan (IS) dari kedua lokasi penelitian didapatkan sebesar 31,60% yang menunjukkan bahwa struktur dan komposisi tumbuhan bawah dikedua lokasi penelitian adalah berbeda.

Undergrowth serves as a ground cover that keep the soil moist so that it can accelerate the decomposition process and provide nutrients to staple crops. Altitude affect climatic conditions such as temperature, humidity and rainfall, these three components affect the existing vegetation. The purpose of this study was to determine the structure and composition of vegetation under the stands of resin with different heights and know the different types of undergrowth with different heights. Sampling sites were divided into two places based on height at the Botanical Gardens of Baturraden, Banyumas and Serang, Purbalingga. The structure of undergrowth in the Botanical Gardens Baturraden composed of herbaceous plants, grasses, shrubs, bushes, ferns, and at RPH Serang composed of ferns, grasses, herbs, shrubs and bushes. Composition of herbs found in the Botanical Gardens Baturraden consists of 24 types of 13 familia and 17 types of 14 RPH familia in Serang. Calculation of Similarity Index (IS) of both sites obtained by 31.60%, which indicates that the structure and composition of the plant under study is different in both locations.
