Representasi Konflik Sudan Tahun 1993 dalam Karya Foto Jurnalistik (Analisis Semiotik Foto Kevin Carter)

Konflik Sudan yang terjadi pada tahun 1993 menyita perhatian semua masyarajat dunia. Hal itu juga tidak terlepas dari sorotan media, khususnya jurnalis. Kevin Carter adalah salah satu sosok jurnalis yang terkenal yang mencapai popularitas melalu karya-karyanya tentang Konflik Sudan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui representasi konflik Sudan melalui foto yang diambil sendiri oleh Kevin ketika dia berada di sana. Penelitian ini bersifat interpretatif kualitatif dan menggunakan analisis semiotika. Analisis semiotika yang diusung Roland Barthes sangat berguna untuk mengetahui pesan yang ingin Kevin sampaikan melalui analisa denotatif-kualitatif, petanda-penanda, dan kode leksia. Dengan menganalisa beberapa foto milik Kevin Carter, laparan dan kemiskinan dalam kondisi yang sangat memprihatinkan. Pesan yang ingin Kevin sampaikan mungkin berujung kepada simpati dan pertolongan untuk masyarakat Sudan dari seluruh penjuru dunia.

Sudan conflict which happened in 1993 had drawn attention to all people around the world. It could not also be escaped from media, particularly journalists. Kevin Cartner, was one of the famous figure of journalists who reached his popularity through his photographs about Sudan conflict. This study is aimed to examine the representation of Sudan conflict through the photographs Kevin has taken during his journey in Sudan. The study is interpretative qualitative study and uses semiotic analysis. The semiotic analysis proposed by Barthes, is significant to explore the message which Kevin wanted to reveal through the analysis of denonative-connotative, sygnifier-sygnified codes, and lexical codes. By analyzing some of Kevin's photographs, the study results in the portrayal of Sudanese people who were suffered from the extremely pathetic condition of hunger and poverty. The message that Kevin wanted to bring out was might be the sympathy and help for Sudanese from people worldwide.
